Icon: Madonna & Child

Original Icon of Madonna & Child (36" X 48")

This icon was designed and executed by Dan Tarnoveanu, in Byzantine style as requested by the Holy Name of Jesus religious community, for their chapel in Wayzata, Minnesota.

The technique used was egg tempera and 24k gold leaf on wood panel.  The egg tempera is a very elaborate yet very durable and beautiful technique. It was extensively used in the Middle Ages and the first half of the Renaissance.
