Wakely Residence

Wakely Residence, Lockwood Opera House Condominium Complex, Northfield, Minnesota

Located in downtown Northfield, the Wakely residence is one of the units of the newly rehabilitated historic building: Lockwood Opera House Condominium Complex.

Architect Dan Tarnoveanu developed and designed a plan for the owner, Mrs. Wakely, to reach her desired results.  Consistent with the style of the house, the color scheme, finishes, materials, and recessed lighting system were carefully chosen to create a warm, cozy, and modern atmosphere; while, the interior decoration provided an air of reminiscence of the historic building in its original form and function.  In order to achieve these goals, historic colors and materials (i.e., embossed tin ceiling) were utilized.

The colors harmonized well with the floor, a light maple with Brazilian cherry trim; the fireplace, a Brazilian cherry base and mantle; the kitchen cabinets, a mix of maple and cherry with stainless steel hardware; and with the stainless steel appliances.

The result of this project proved that the readaptive use of the building (i.e.,
converting an Opera House into a Condominium) can capture the splendor of a historic building in a modernized interior.

Consulting and design services were performed in 2006
