WAR AND PEACE

WALL TAPESTRY

RARA’S ART COLLECTION

War and Peace tapestry was designed by Dan Tarnoveanu of RARA, and executed by a weaver at the Institute of Fine Arts in Bucharest, Romania. It was designed as a single panel.

Tapestry, according to Encyclopedia Brittanica, is “a woven decorative fabric, the design of which is built up in the course of weaving.” This tapestry was handwoven on a vertical loom. The technique used to create this tapestry is named high-warp, or haute-lisse in French. The threads are made of hand colored wool and the batting is made of cotton. It was designed as a type of movable monumental decoration for large architectural surfaces.
